Mission Statement of The Arc of Utah

Adopted in February 2005

The Arc of Utah advocates for and with people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through awareness, outreach, education, support and public policy.

The Arc will focus on these five areas in order to accomplish this mission:

Awareness
Educating the public about disabilities and disability issues, especially those that may not have firsthand knowledge or experience with disabilities.
Support
Providing programs and services to help people with disabilities and their families feel engaged in their communities and to keep families healthy and intact.
Outreach
Locating and affiliating individuals with disabilities and their families that are not knowledgeable about The Arc or current members of The Arc.
Education
Teaching and training individuals and their families about the resources and supports that are available to assist them and to plan for the future.
Public Policy
Educating legislators, community leaders and state agencies about disability issues and concerns and disseminating information to individuals and families so they are educated about disability policies and laws.

The Arc of Utah will be a reputable source of information for individuals with disabilities, families, policy makers and other organizations and agencies. It will create and maintain pro-active collaborations with other agencies and organizations and will preserve its State Chapter status with The Arc of the US. The Board members of the Arc of Utah will strive to develop the means necessary for the Arc of Utah to carry out its mission and goals.

The Arc of Utah advocates for and alongside people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc of Utah is a non-profit, grassroots organization, founded over forty years ago by a small group of parents and others concerned about the rights of people with developmental disabilities (DD). Over the past year, we have restructured the Board of Directors and hired a new Executive . We are now in the process of developing many new programs that will assist people with cognitive disabilities and their families as they plan and live their lives. We need your help. Volunteer opportunities abound. Don't just sit back and watch us grow, come and be a part of the excitement!
